Position Client Services Underwriter
Division: Sales & Business Development
Section: Regional – St. Lucia
Primary Position Objectives
The Client Services Underwriter – St. Lucia is expected to be dedicated to providing unfailing support to all stakeholders in the unit to ensure customer satisfaction as well as contribute to the sustainable growth and development of business for Beacon. The Underwriter will have the ability to bind cover up to a specified amount, provide quotes, manage claims and receivables, deal with customer service issues and engage in marketing of Beacon’s services.

Underwriting:
Provide timely quotations for all classes of business in keeping with The Beacon’s guidelines and approved Limits of Authority.
Bind Coverage for quotations provided and accept New Business for all classes of insurance in keeping with The Beacon’s guidelines and approved Limits of Authority.
Provide immediate Proof of Cover as may be required.
To provide timely sign off on all Policy and other Documents as required.
Business Development/Revenue Generation:
Consistently identify new opportunities for cross -selling and up-selling the company’s products across Direct Team.
To assist in the formulation, development and implementation of special projects
To assist, Supervisor and Senior Management with effectively growing Beacon’s book of business.
Develop Business through improvement of relationships with customers.
To maintain Beacon’s book of business under your purview by ensuring policies are renewed through continuous communication with the Customers.
Continuously ensure compliance with all The Beacon’s guidelines, manuals, corporate policies and SOPs.
Reporting:
To assist in preparation monthly reports on business written and overall performance of the book of business under your purview.
Customer Service:
Timely response to all Customers queries and requests.
Handle queries that arise from customers concerning their accounts
To provide technical advice to Customers, Agents and Underwriters when necessary.
Claims Support:
Receive Claim Documentation, date stamp them, scan and e-mail to P&C Claims Technical Support Team
Print Letters for disbursement where necessary and arrange for same to be mailed.
Disburse printed cheques to Customers and place the signed cheque stub in the physical claim file.
Print Discharge Forms where necessary, scan signed document and e-mail to P&C Claims Technical Support Team
Forward all original documents to Document Management Technicians to place in chronological order in physical claim files and place files in appropriate draws in numerical order
Cashing Support:
In the absence of the cashier complete the cashing functions:
Processing of receipts and deposits in accordance with cash collection procedures.
Preparation of Payment vouchers, cheques and disbursements of cheques – Operational Expenses.
Filing of all finance related documents – receipts, deposit slips and vouchers.
Process online transactions via internet to have payments processed by head office.
Preparation of Night Deposit.
Disbursement and Reconciliation of Petty Cash

Administration:
Ensure the accuracy and efficiency of all entries made on The Beacon’s core operating system.
Team Support:
Complete any job-related function relevant to the Sales and Business Development Division that may be required.

Represents an individual’s knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements and how to meet these on a day-to-day basis. It is also about understanding the concept of operational risk and how this is controlled within organizations.

Represents an individual’s knowledge of how claims should be handled and managed

Represents an individual’s knowledge of Beacon and the wider insurance market place and how this is applied on day-to-day basis.

7. Risk Perception and assessment:
Knowledge and understanding of the information gathering process, the factors that affect the acceptance and underwriting of risks and how these are applied on a day-to-day basis.

Knowledge and understanding of the factors that affect the pricing of risks and the ability to apply these on a day-to-day basis.
9. Underwriting Process:
Knowledge and understanding of Beacon’s underwriting processes and procedures which is needed for new risks, alterations, renewals, and/or cancellations to be processed in an accurate and timely manner.
10. Underwriting Management:
Knowledge and understanding of the factors that affect the performance of an underwriting portfolio and how risk exposure can be monitored and controlled.
Qualifications and Experience:
5 CSEC Passes
Must include Math and English (No less than a grade 2)
Certification:
Certificate of Proficiency or equivalent (GI)
BDI/CII Cert/AINS or equivalent (GIII)
Experience:
Minimum 1-6 years’ experience in general insurance underwriting
Position Interface (People that you liaise with on a regular basis):
External: Customers/Brokers/Agents and Salespersons
Internal: SBD team, IS, Insurance Operations Property & Casualty, Finance
