The Purchasing Manager maintains records of goods ordered and received. Negotiates prices and contracts with suppliers. Builds and maintains relationships with vendors. Selects prospective vendors and evaluates vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.
1. Develops a purchasing strategy.
2. Reviews and processes purchase orders.
3. Responsible for the management and control of the departmental budget
4. Maintains records of goods ordered and received
5. Ensure proper scheduling of foreign purchases to meet current and future demands while optimizing warehouse usage and avoiding overstock situations
6. Negotiates prices and contracts with suppliers.
7. Builds and maintains relationships with vendors.
8. Selects prospective vendors and evaluates vendors based on quality, timeliness, and price.
9. Schedules deliveries and ensures timely fulfillment of orders.
10. Researches and evaluates vendors to compare pricing and services.
11. Coordinates with fellow managers to monitor inventory and determine supply needs.
12. Ensures quality of procured items and addresses problems when they arise.
13. Keeps up with trends in procurement.
14. Stays current with purchasing technology trends and oversees purchase and implementation, as necessary.
Purchasing Manager Qualifications/Skills:
1. Excellent organizational skills.
2. Effective communication skills.
3. Negotiation skills.
4. Research and analytical skills.
5. Interpersonal skills.
6. Degree in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration preferred.
7. CIPS qualification would be an asset
8. 5-10 years experience as a purchasing manager.
9. Experience using procurement software and databases
